The one-handed kettlebell swing

“If you could only do one exercise, which would it be?” My answer to this desert island style question would undoubtedly be — the kettlebell swing.

the kettlebell

The kettlebell is now a staple in many gyms, but when I was first introduced to them over a dozen years ago, they were still a relative oddity. Deceptively simple — an iron ball with a handle — with this old school Russian fitness tool you can perform a wide variety of exercises that hit every part of your body.

Research completed by one of the foremost back experts, Dr. Stuart McGill, indicated that the one-handed kettlebell swing is one of the best exercises for developing a healthy posterior chain (in other words, it is a great exercise for your lower back).
